What Is an IPO?

An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the process by which a privately held company offers its shares to the general public on a regulated stock exchange — such as the NYSE or NASDAQ — for the first time. The IPO Process Timeline

Going public is a structured, multi-stage process:
